Low Impact Development

Low Impact Development (LID)is a comprehensive design technique incorporating planning, engineering, and landscape designs to minimize the effects that development has on storm water run-off. Compared to "conventional" drainage techniques, Low Impact Development:

  • LID drainage areas are smaller in size than detention basins and give more profitable land back to developers
  • LID techniques results in significantly more project amenities (trees, shrubs, flowers, etc.)
  • LID techniques reduce the overall project's costs upfront and down the road
  • LID techniques reduce the overall project's costs for yearly maintenance fees
  • LID drainage areas reduce the potential for mosquito blooms
  • LID techniques reduce the project’s potential for soil erosion
  • LID drainage areas naturally clean toxic, polluted soils
